Purple Raiment: Dignity and Strength for Jewish Believers

The Significance of Purple. From biblical times, costly purple dye was used to clothe kings, priests, and warriors. It was used for the fringes of garments and for the curtains in the Jewish Temple. Purple is still a color signifying royalty and honor. It is used in religious vestments to signify royalty and sacrifice and in universities and colleges to signify academic accomplishment.

Purple as Costly. The color of the dye used in the Bible was said to be the color of dried blood. There is a connection between the Messianic Jewish movement and costly purple dye, because to be a Jewish believer in Yeshua (Jesus) is costly. The stories and contributions of Jewish believers in Jesus are inspiring and worthwhile. Thankfully, the demand to know more about Jewish believers, Jewish issues, and the Jewish perspective of the Bible is growing.

The Term "Raiment"

Raiment as Strength and Dignity. The godly woman of Proverbs 31 clothed herself in strength and dignity, in purple and silk. Purple Raiment offers publishing strength and dignity to the emerging Messianic Jewish movement that began during the 1970s. This important niche population continues to grow in numbers and importance. The culture of Messianic Jews who believe in Jesus deserves the attention of school and public libraries, seminaries, congregations of all sorts, Church book stores, Christian and secular retail stores, the general media, as well as individuals interested in Israel and Jewish culture, history, and issues.

Our Mission:
  • Purple Raiment publishes needed resources for and by Messianic Jewish believers in Jesus..
  • We encourage interested individuals, congregations, book stores, libraries, and organizations to carry Messianic Jewish resources in their collections as a unique display or shelf.
  • Purple Raiment interprets existing Messianic Jewish resources by pointing to classic works that have shown value over time and are worthy to be added to important collections.
  • Purple Raiment also distributes related resources from other publishers that otherwise would be difficult to locate or obtain.
In Memory of my Grandfather and in Honor of My Father.
During the depression, my grandfather, Winter Maurice Fleming, Sr., started a publishing business in the basement of his home. I grew up with a cabinet of type, a small printing press, and printer's ink and paper alongside my toys. The books Winter Fleming printed emphasized country, faith in God, home life, and interesting facts. My grandfather gave me my wonderful father, Luther Fleming, who at age 92 is still my loving support and guide.
